Heavy Steel Beam Installation in Stevenage

Another interesting steel install this week, working alongside Paul, Dan and Tim from Letchworth Steel in Stevenage.

The 1.1 tonne beam had been set roughly in its pre-lift position before the building works had been started, so the first challenge was to get into the sloping and restricted access ‘built-up’ area.

Hooka’s narrow width and stable track base made light work of this and also allowed it to carry a 200Kg ‘deck pack’ into site. Once there, the deck sections were used to create a robust, flat operating platform across the split-level installation area.

The machine was then able to climb onto the platform, before safely lifting and holding the huge beam precisely in position whilst the columns were erected and chemical fixed in place. To top-off the day, a couple of 150Kg ‘back to back’ beams were set onto their padstones.
