Challenging install for two Hooka Cranes this week, working alongside the Swift Brickwork team on the Multiplex Kings Cross project. The ‘unique’ profile of the box frame’s 1.1 tonne top beam meant it had to be lifted by one of the cranes and accurately ‘fed-in’ behind the existing Temporary works upside-down. Once there, it was very carefully rolled over 180° in situ – before being lifted up and under the existing floor joists above. Next, one of the Hooka cranes was left securing the top beam whilst the second machine transported and inserted the 320 kg columns underneath the top beam so they could be bolted ‘hanging’ from it. The final piece of the jigsaw was for the 2 machines to lift the ground beam up in its trench to meet the columns and complete the structure safely for the main contractors.
