Safe Installation of 300kg to 950kg Steel RSJ Beams on Site in Wokingham with Restricted Access

K Design set the Hooka a 4 Steel RSJ I-Beam challenge. The steel RSJs ranged from 300kg to 950kg and had to be towed and carried 100 metres into the site through a restricted access without causing damage to the mature gardens.

The Hooka’s lightweight and load spreading tracks allowed it to run on a 13mm plywood track-way to deliver the steel I-beams to the installation area.

With 2 upper storeys of 13 inch solid wall to support, the first 2 steel I-Beams needed setting as a parallel pair. With its ability to slew-turn on the spot, the Hooka was able to thread the steel I-beams between the acroprops so they were inside the property and lift them up and onto the brick piers.

The 950kg steel RSJ beam was the first to lifted into position followed by its 450kg partner I-Beam. The Hooka then dealt with the 2 steel I-beams on the outer structure, smoothly and safely, installing the 300kg crossbar steel I-Beam to 2.6m high, before fitting the final 350kg apex steam I-Beam to 3.5m pitch height.
